Services

Super Tutoring is an independent tutoring service. We offer bespoke one-to-one tuition, and small group teaching. All our sessions are taught by specialist English and Maths teachers, delivering in-depth subject knowledge whilst encouraging engagement and accelerating progress.
Entrance Examination & 11+ Group Tutoring
The entrance examinations for state grammar schools or independent schools include a combination of the following subjects:

    •  Verbal Reasoning
    •  Non-verbal Reasoning
    •  English
    •  Maths

Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning (VNVR) are subjects not taught in UK state schools, but are a key element of the entrance examinations. Tuition in VNVR tests gives pupils the skills, knowledge and confidence to approach and pass the 11+ and other entrance examinations. Although English and Maths are taught in all schools as part of the National Curriculum, invariably it is not always taught with the focus, or to a level, that would allow students to pass the 11+ entrance exams. With groups of no more than eight children, our tutoring improves children’s academic understanding and exam techniques and develops overall self-confidence in preparation for sitting the tests.

Every week in term-time, your child will benefit from 55 minutes of Maths and Non-Verbal tutoring delivered by Claud Cunningham, a secondary school trained Mathematics teacher. After a short break, they will receive a further 55 minutes of English and Verbal Reasoning provided by Carrie Burke, a primary school trained teacher with English qualification to postgraduate level.

Based on teacher assessment of your child’s needs, focused home learning will also be given every week, which also consolidates learning from the week’s class.

Entrance Examination and 11+ Summer Schools
Running from August our summer schools will be specifically focused on exam practice, revision and technique for those children going into Year 6 who are sitting the entrance examinations in September 2019 and January 2020. Book a week with our tutors to revise the crucial elements of English, Mathematics, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning in the 11+ tests. Sit mock papers and strengthen weaker areas of knowledge, and improve overall examination techniques.
Our unique approach means that your child will benefit from guided revision based on a classroom model of learning. We incorporate paired and group work and a carousel of activities so children learn from their peers and tutors as well as independently. We use constant, formative assessment to evaluate your child’s strengths and address their weaknesses. This means we reflect our teaching delivery based on their needs. This helps your child build the skills and knowledge they need to pass the tests.
Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning revision and practice is lead by Claud Cunningham (LLB Hons Law, PGCE Secondary Mathematics), whilst English and Verbal Reasoning is overseen by Carrie Burke (MA Soc. Sci, PGCE Primary Education).

9:30am – 12:30pm
Monday 19th August – Friday 23rd August
Four days revision and exam practice with a mock examination at the end of the week.
Price = £250 for the whole week

Year 6 SATs Booster Groups

The Key Stage 2 SATs are the main examinations Year 6 children. The tests taken in May of Year 6 combine Reading Comprehension, SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar), Arithmetic and Mathematical Reasoning. Your child will also be assessed on writing and composition by their teacher throughout their time in Year 6. With groups of no more than eight children, our tutoring improves children’s academic understanding and exam techniques and develops overall self-confidence in preparation for sitting the Year 6 tests.

Every week in term-time, your child will benefit from 55 minutes of Maths tutoring delivered by Claud Cunningham, a secondary school trained Mathematics teacher. After a short break, they will receive a further 55 minutes of English provided by Carrie Burke, a primary school trained teacher with English qualification to postgraduate level.

Based on teacher assessment of your child’s needs, focused home learning will also be given every week, which also consolidates learning from the week’s class.

Secondary Maths Tuition – Key Stage 3

This is a crucial stage of your child’s education. Performing to the best of their ability will ensure that they are in the correct set before entering Key Stage 4, where sets can be fixed making it harder to enable your child to move up. If your child has the ability to sit higher papers, it’s important to be a part of those higher sets in school. Super Tutoring can assist with this by improving and increasing your child’s mathematical knowledge and confidence; improving their problem solving and exam techniques to maximise progression.

We do this by consolidating your child’s learning from school, helping in any areas where they need additional input. Furthermore, we can guide on homework so that learning at home is accessible and promotes progression. With regular progress checks and test practice, we ensure that your child is fully equipped mentally and academically to face the challenges of the GCSE years.

Secondary Maths Tuition – Key Stage 4

Key Stage 4 is a critical time in terms of the implementation of mathematical strategies to achieve the best outcome for your child. Achievement of GCSE maths at the highest grade possible is an imperative in an increasingly competitive educational and employment landscape. Claud Cunningham is a secondary trained Mathematics tutor who offers maths tuition in your home. Many children are held back by a lack of confidence in the subject, but she focuses not just on subject knowledge but by building confidence too.

The majority of UK employers and colleges require a minimum of grade 4 at GCSE. If your child is struggling to achieve this grade, one to one tuition can give them the boost they need to gain the skills and confidence to succeed.

Super Tutoring provide mathematics tuition that is accessible and enjoyable. We deliver lessons that are carefully planned and mirror each individual student’s requirements. With a breadth of experience within and outside the classroom, Super Tutoring deliver interactive, engaging learning that makes remembering key concepts easier and fun. We work hard with our students to tackle those tricky areas of knowledge, consolidating and building upon school learning.

By building solid knowledge foundations and developing question and exam technique, our students develop the self-conviction they need to approach the Key Stage 4 exams with success.

The fees for this are £45 an hour (if paying by the hour) and for an initial appraisal; £200 for 5 lessons paid in advance; £350 for 10 lessons.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) – Child and Adult

Super Tutoring’s Carrie Burke is passionate about teaching the English language and is qualified from Trinity College Cambridge with a TESOL certificate of Distinction Grade. She has studied English at degree-level and is a trained primary school teacher whose dissertation focused on EAL (English as an Additional Language) children in main-school settings. Super Tutoring is committed to delivering quality one-to-one tuition that reflects the student’s requirements, helping individuals to become fluent communicators.  Each aspect of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) is covered and, depending on the student’s needs, any areas of weakness or development will be addressed. We assist students preparing for examinations including IELTS, FCE, CAE and other ESOL certificates.

Super Tutoring is very good and helped me improve and expand my knowledge. I like Super Tutoring’s style as I felt as if I was being encouraged to work hard yet not being strained. My tutor was easy to talk to and very pleasant. I owe Super Tutoring a lot of gratitude.
